چکیده

We present two classes of nonequilibrium models with critical behavior. Each model is characterized by an integer q > 1, and is defined on configurations of q-valued spins on regular lattices. The definitions of the models are very similar to the updating rules in Wolff’s algorithm for the Potts model, but both classes break detailed balance, except for q = 2 and q = ∞. In the first case both models reduce to the Ising model, while one of them reduces to percolation (more precisely, to the general epidemic process) for q = ∞. Locations of the critical point and critical exponents are estimated in 2 dimensions. PACS numbers: 05.20, 05.40, 05.50, 36.20.E, 61.40, 64.70

Universality of First and Second Order Phase Transition in Solar Activity: Evidence for Nonextensive Tsallis Statistics

In this work, we present the coexistence of self-organized criticality (SOC) and low-dimensional chaos at solar activity with results obtained by using the intermittent turbulence theory, the nonextensive q-statistics of Tsallis as well as the singular value decomposition analysis. Particularly, we show the independent dynamics of sunspot system related to the convection zone of sun and the sol...

8 S ep 2 00 3 Universality classes in nonequilibrium lattice systems ∗

This work is designed to overview our present knowledge about universality classes occurring in nonequilibrium systems defined on regular lattices. In the first section I summarize the most important critical exponents, relations and the field theoretical formalism used in the text. In the second section I briefly address the question of scaling behavior at first order phase transitions. In sec...

Nonequilibrium anisotropic phases, nucleation, and critical behavior in a driven Lennard-Jones fluid

We describe short-time kinetic and steady-state properties of the nonequilibrium phases, namely, solid, liquid, and gas anisotropic phases in a driven Lennard-Jones fluid. This is a computationally convenient two-dimensional model which exhibits a net current and striped structures at low temperature, thus resembling many situations in nature. We here focus on both critical behavior and details...

Boundary effects on the nonequilibrium structure factor of fluids below the Rayleigh-Bénard instability.

We consider a horizontal fluid layer between two rigid boundaries, maintained in a stationary thermal nonequilibrium state below the convective Rayleigh-Bénard instability. We derive an explicit expression for the nonequilibrium structure factor in a first-order Galerkin approximation valid for negative and positive Rayleigh numbers R up to the critical Rayleigh number R(c) associated with the ...

2 9 A ug 2 00 0 Criticality and Superfluidity in Liquid 4 He Under Nonequilibrium Conditions

We review a striking array of recent experiments, and their theoretical interpretations, on the superfluid transition in 4 He in the presence of a heat flux, Q. We define and evaluate a new set of critical point exponents. The statics and dynamics of the superfluid-normal interface are discussed, with special attention to the role of gravity. If Q is in the same direction as gravity, a self-org...
